Ranger’s Apprentice: The Burning Bridge by John Flanagan

Warning: There may be spoilers.

The Burning Bridge by John Flanagan was more exciting than the first book. I liked how relationships were strengthened — Horace and Will’s friendship is one — and I liked almost all of the characters in the story and the way they were developed, something that doesn’t happen often. Almost, because I’m not too fond of Alyss (heh); but I like her poise, the way she carries herself, and her ability to stay calm when insulted. I enjoyed reading about the sword fights, the duels, the preparations for battle (because I love epic battles). I also like Gilan. Actually, no, I’m in love with him. What I’m sad about is the ending. However, I think that part also showed how Halt cared so much for his apprentice Will, and how he’d be willing to do anything to find him.

Recommended read for those who love adventure, and books about friendship and bravery.

The Burning Bridge by John Flanagan is the second of twelve books in the Ranger’s Apprentice series and was published in 2005.
